This followed the same formula as the first one (Grave Sight). Psychic detective does the job she's paid to do, the cops find it suspicious, she has to wait around during the investigation, and the author spends a lot of time describing people's clothing (she dresses the main character way too old incidentally lol). I read these books because the Sookie Stackhouse ones are always out of the library but if they are like this, I may not bother to try to get them. It's not that they are bad, they are just kind of formulaic and fluffy - if they wren't library books, i'd read them at the beach for fun.
I was first introduced to Charlaine Harris through her Sookie Stackhouse supernatural novels (Dead Until Dark, etc), and though I really enjoyed the first couple, as the series went on, the books just got worse and worse.
In the midst of writing about Sookie, she started a second supernatural series, the Harper Connelly stories.
Connelly was struck by lightning and can now sense the dead, but other than that, the books are far more mystery than sci-fi/supernatural. She's only written two so far, and they are both quite well done. Hopefully, the Harper books won't go the way of the Sookie books.
I think the mystery in Grave Surprise is a little bit tighter and a bit darker, but Harper's "revelation" was really obvious to me from book one.
Hopefully, Harris can keep the good writing going on this.

I liked this book better than the first one in the series. Unfortunately, it was pretty easy to figure out the murderer. I am also guessing that Harper and her stepbrother Tolliver will soon go from family to something else.
adventurous
dark
mysterious
fast-paced
This is the the second novel in Charlaine Harris's Harper Connelly series. While I enjoyed reading this mystery more than the first one, I still can't get myself to like either Harper or Tolliver. I enjoyed the story, but once again had guessed the villain fairly early on. Manfred and Xylda were two new characters I really enjoyed who I hope will be returning in the next book.
3.5
weirdly I remembered more about this one than the first book. I didn't remember the ending and I didn't see it coming!

It got difficult to follow towards the end but I didn't see the culprit coming
I was given this graphic novel to write a review on by NetGalley.
I was super excited to see this was a book that I could request to review through NetGalley. I have read the novel/series of Harper Connelly and it was one of my favorites. I am also a fan of graphic novels/comics so I thought that it would be the best of both worlds for me. I would like to say that this book visually is amazing. it brought to life a story that was both terrifying and wonderful all at the same time. However with that being said maybe I should have left my imagination to create this book's characters for me and not this graphic novel. It is not to say that the artist did not do an amazing idea, what I am trying to convey is that when you have a series that you love you have created the characters in your mind. Sometimes you have created them even regardless of how they are physically described due to their tone, and attitude. I kept reading the book and kept criticizing how tiny things were done due to the world and characters that I had built for myself in my head.
There were background stories and areas of the book that I felt were almost different from the novel version of this book as well. Ex. The way characters interacted with each other, visual interpretations of events and people. As well as the overall tone felt slightly adjusted.
I think it may sound to some that I did not enjoy this. Let me say again. I did enjoy the book immensely and the story I still loved. I just had a huge hang up on my brain thinking things should be one way and not the way they visually were on the page.

I am really enjoying this series by Charlain Harris. I really like the interaction with Harper and her brother Tolliver. They are very quick and easy books to read and so far I have not been able to figure out who done it :) Definitely looking forward to the next one!
Book two in the Harper Connelly Mysteries.
Harper is back, this time as a guest of a snooty college professor who is determined to prove that she is a fraud. As she demonstrates her ability to sense corpses and to find out how they died, she comes across a much more recent corpse in the old cemetery. Once again, Harper is caught in a situation where she might just end up dead herself if she can't catch the killer before the killer catches her.
