I have owned this series for quite a while. I got them in a set for Christmas one year along with the first eight Sookie Stackhouse books. I don't think I was in love with the first book and this ones isn't anything amazing either but it was enjoyable all the same.
They are mystery novels, plain and simple. A bit of a supernatural spin which to be honest doesn't play the biggest part in my opinion. After she see how the person dies she relies on good old fashioned running into situations before thinking it though.
They are quick reads as well and just under 300 pages.

Crossover. Manfred Bernardo appears, along with Xylda.
It's been almost two years since I read the first novel about Harper Connelly, and I had forgotten how much I liked it. Grave Surprise is an easy, entertaining read, and I really enjoy reading about Harper and her special talents:)
We follow Harper who, after being struck by lightning, has the ability to know - through their bones - how people died. She and her stepbrother, Tolliver, investigate unsolved cases and try to find missing people. One of these cases - involving a missing girl - they were not able to solve; until, years later, whilst working on another case, Harper stumbles onto her remains.
This graphic novel is based on a book series by Charlaine Harris and this story comes from the second book in that series. I hadn't read the novel series before, but was still able to follow and enjoy the story without feeling as if there were things that I was missing. The story was written really well and was - despite it being a rather text-heavy graphic novel - extremely engaging and well-paced. I feel that the story translated well to the medium; though, at times, there seemed to be more text and background information than was strictly necessary.
A thoroughly enjoyable read that left me wanting to pick up the series upon which it is based and keep my eye out for more graphic novels in the series. Thanks to Netgalley and Diamond Book Distributors for making this available in exchange for an honest review.

Didn't figure it out until the end which is always a plus for me!
I think it was just as good if not better then book 1. Harper and Tolliever's lives are equal with the mystry of the story which I find rare in a splendid way.
I enjoyed this a lot more than the first book I felt like I knew the characters better here and had a more interesting mystery to follow. I enjoyed this enough that I'll more readily pick up the third, whereas I took this with some hesitation after the first. There are definitely some points of redundancy, especially when she makes note of her gift/technique or relationship with Tolliver. While I was glad for a little re-hashing because it had been awhile since I read the first, Harris gave a bit more than necessary.
3.5 stars
The second book in this series had a lot in common with the first book, but it had a few new elements to keep it interesting.

I really enjoyed Grave Surprise. It took me a few chapters to get into the book, but once I did I really enjoyed it. Harper and Tolliver are in Memphis to demonstrate her ability. And she finds more then she thought. I really liked the story it was fast paced and kept my attention. I do love Charlaine Harris!
