Purchased this because of sensory processing representation but this is a prime example of adding diverse characters without thinking of how a child’s race changes the intent of the story. There are so many issues to unpack here.

This series of books is so well done. This one in particular would be perfect for K/1 classrooms!

I love the Little Senses series! These books focus on experiences primarily (but not exclusively) had by autistic kids in a way that is empathetic and offers specific advice to kids for handling challenges like food sensitivities, sensory overload, and in this one, difficulties with playing with friends.
Can I Play Too? focuses on the experience of getting really excited about playing with trains to the point that our main character doesn't see that he's not giving his friend the chance to have a say in what they're doing. But with the help of a caring adult, he's able to understand why his friend is upset and consider his feelings more carefully.
After seeing so many books about autistic experiences that focus on parents or siblings, or that don't try to really understand what a child is experiencing, this series is a breath of fresh air and I can't wait for the next releases in the series!
