Damn.
Makes you think twice. Fascinating portrayal of the everyday gone awry white saviorism (I can help you! Let me share my things with you to help you! I know how best to defend you! I can make better choices/open doors for your future!) and the modern day “mammy” (She’s just part of the family!). Also, insight into a young black woman having to navigate familial, racial and social expectations after college. Author, [a:Kiley Reid|18257829|Kiley Reid|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1584271436p2/18257829.jpg] delivers much food for thought.

"But now, she sat in Philadelphia, participating in a losing game called 'Which one of us is actually more racist?'"

Funny, light, and easy. An accessible look at race, ambition and ally-ship.

So many layers to this story -- from the title to the transactional relationships to race to age/generational differences! It is completely engrossing and fun (and cringe-y at times!) but also very thoughtful.

3.8 (Audiobook) I liked the Audiobook version of this and the narrator was a good choice.
I also liked the book in general and the topics and that it was not all clear cut. Everything was complex and multi facetted, as life often is, and I also found the main character well written and relatable.
