This is written in 3rd person present tense POV, which for me just made it hard to get into the flow (the movie refused to play in my head). The main characters had no charisma. And you can pretty much guess the culprit at 40-50% mark
The location of this story added to its appeal. Set in England, Ruth is an archeologist that helps solve a 10 year old crime. While the story begins to unravel closer to the end, the author leaves a few twists for the reader.

Other readers freaked about this author's use of the present tense in this first of a mystery series, but I didn't mind it all! Yes, Ruth is a tad stereotypical--40ish, single, overweight English forensic anthropologist, but I enjoyed her off-the-cuff remarks and confusing situations. She's not the best at common sense decisions, even if she's a bone expert. I'll add Book #2 to my To Read list for the next time I need a quick British mystery with a female-lead.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked Ruth and Nelson a lot. They were both complex characters that were flawed and likable. The mystery was nicely developed and kept me guessing. I also liked all the archaeology involved in the story. This was a well written story and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
