I never thought I'd be into dark romance, but Jo Brenner changed my mind with Brutal Game. So much so that I had to email her and ask about Heartless Game because the algorithm didn't tell me when it was coming out. Anyway. On to the review portion.
I loved Tovah and Isaac in Brutal Game. When the epilogue gave the clue that they'd be the center of the next book, I fist pumped and did a happy dance. And then I finished their story in a day. And not just like a whole day, I mean I started the book on my kindle in car rider line waiting to pick up my kid and didn't stop reading until I finished at 10:45 last night. I couldn't stop.
This book had so many parts that made me laugh out loud while also being like "hmm. Maybe I need to talk about this in therapy".
**clears throat** for example:
No man had ever touched me between my legs, much less attached his mouth to my vagina like he was a demonic vacuum trying to suck out my soul.
Straight up cackled.
Getting to experience Tovah going through everything and not backing down, not giving up... i loved it. And at this point in my life, I needed to read about a female character saying the opinion of others doesn't matter because she loves herself and loves who she is.
Then we have Good Guy Isaac battling his own monsters and making peace with who he is. I couldn't get enough. Especially with his friends trying to help him see "hey, maybe let's not do this".
I do recommend reading the TWs before reading. Make sure there's not anything you can't handle.
Then enjoy the ride. Because whew. It is worth it.

This is a dark hockey romance that I could not put down!
Tovah is determined to uncover the secrets that hockey star Isaac Jones is hiding. She knows that he has a dark past and mafia family, but she needs proof in order to show the world and save her mother. Isaac doesn’t know why Tovah has captured his attention so thoroughly, but he wants to hate her for it. When he uncovers her plan to write an exposé on his family, he will do anything to stop her even if it means subjecting her to his darkest desires.
I absolutely loved Tovah. She was so fierce and brave, but also sweet and protective. And Isaac was so delightfully unhinged. The way he went from wanting to punish Tovah to being determined to care for her and make sure nothing could hurt her was so well written.
I cannot wait to read more stories in this world!
