I am on a pursuit to read everything Yoko Ogawa! This is a quick read with a lot of ooky spooky going on for sure, and I really enjoyed it! On a general level, it was not very scary. But, I'm a wimp, and I'm ok with that! My favorites from this collection were: Old Mrs. J, Lab Coats, Sewing for the Heart, and The Man Who Sold Braces. They were all pretty good though! I recommend to lovers of dark and creepy things (but not a hardcore horror person), as well as Ogawa fans!

If you enjoy unsettling, spooky stories, this is probably a good book for you. The stories are vaguely interconnected, which is a gimmick I enjoy. I liked seeing how the next story would reference the previous story. The way the stories interconnected felt like the reader received a little reward as you progressed throughout the book for being able to pick up on these small but obvious connections. There are 11 stories in total, and they have a good mix of murderous stories and stories that are just unsettling. This mix between these types of stories keeps it from being too over the top with an absurd body count to keeping it too boring or potentially realistic. Ogawa's writing style is something I enjoy in all her books. Her prose is easy to follow but creates a clear sense of place and provides odd descriptions of characters both of which are essential for spooky stories.
