My Donkey's Name is Boris

Granny Isla, Mr. Sutton, Mariah, the O'Shaughnessy brothers, Talia & Rex's grandpa, and the rest of the gang are back to ensure that nothing in Rex's or Alyssa's life is boring!  The antics!  They are priceless.  I especially loved when Mariah took to make-up.  I laughed so hard there were tears. There are tears for other reasons as things go along but it all adds up to one crazy, comical, heartbreaking, steamy, fantastical read! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

UPDATED 3/2021:

Aside for some weird editing related to recordings that were done outside of the original studio / recording location that pop up occasionally, I continue to love this book and series. If you love a bit of crazy with plenty of uncomfortable, perfectly timed awesomeness that's guaranteed to make you laugh, then you have to read and/or listen. Things get dirty and a little foul but the humor and results are fantastic!

Laila HK did a good job but her version of a Southern boy is not what I expected for Rex. Overall, it was an enjoyable listen.

I won this in an ARC giveaway. I thought the book was hilarious. I actually laughed out loud a handful of times while reading it.

Alyssa Owens a gypsy at heart and a bartender by night. She has ventured to LA to be closer to her brothers. One night she is given a chance that will change her life forever. She is given the opportunity to try out as a lead singer for a band that often played at the bar she worked at. But nothing is for free. Alyssa starts to get random heavy breather phone calls. Causing her brother Max to worry about her. He sends his best friend Rex Walker to be her bodyguard, but she calls him the babysitter.

There is so much chemistry between Alyssa and Rex. Neither is willing to admit it, so they dance around each other continuing to fight their mutual attraction. All of Rex’s protective instants start working overtime as the calls Alyssa is receiving get worse. Rex has secrets. He is hiding from whatever made him quit teaching. He needs to figure out how to come to terms with everything in his life and figure out his role with Alyssa.

When Rex and Alyssa finally decide that they will give into their feelings, it’s fireworks but nothing comes easy. Rex’s secrets come back to haunt him.

This is a very captivating book. This was my first Jackie Paxson story and I was really impressed. I loved her characters. Her storyline had great forward movement. It was a joy to read it. The suspense of the stalker, Rex’s secrets and their chemistry made this a 4/5 read for me. I did have hard time getting into the story and focusing. I wish that there had not been as much background given in the beginning.
