Very beautifully written. Every emotion is well conveyed and above all nothing has been dramatized for effect. He is an amazing writer who knows how to tell a story without dragging it out or leaving it half-way. Must read!

What a soul crushing book. If it wasn't so beautifully written and well-plotted, I'd probably fault it for almost being too bludgeoning with sad event after sad event, but as it's written it feels like there's, unfortunately, a lot of truth here. I really do appreciate getting to see Afghanistan through Hosseini's eyes growing up there in the '60s and '70s, as, shamefully I was not aware of some of the rich bounties of the country. For that reason it was very eye-opening and made Amir's return in 2001 all the more stark and painful. A truly amazing novel, here.
