Much less convoluted than the first book. Nation Building really felt like it has a purpose.
Chas still feels a bit shallow but he probably really is just an opportunistic jerk who just happens to do the right thing (sometimes).

By now I really like the series and will continue reading it, something I wasn't sure about after Trashed.

More than a year after the founding g of New Texas, the population has grown and things are starting to resemble some what of a functioning society. Now, Chas is on a mission to do what it takes to get New Texas recognized no matter the costs.

The concept is what makes me wanting to continue reading this. The idea of oil funded rich boy turned environmentalist is great but the way he approaches things is just so unrealistic for his age. If we are going off the first couple of pages of volume one where he was 14, he is now 15 maybe 16 at most. It’s very hard to believe he’s doing all these things at his age, especially with the constant references to sex and use of alcohol. But at the same time, I never actually know where the story is going and the introduction of the many types of mutated animal and fish life is so fascinating. I’ll definitely read the next volume but at the same time, I’m really happy there’s only one more volume because the intrigue to make you want to keep reading and now put the volume down is not present most of the time.

Marginally more enjoyable, but I still really hate the central character and I’m not sure this was ever the intention of the writer. I’m still wanting him to fail, even when the admittedly higher stakes and better plotting make the book more engaging. More baby octopuses at the end kind of feel like a bit of a desperate ploy… when the book is flailing go for that one thing people liked about the last one
