A monument to the complete insanity of the modern world, recognizing that you can't possibly reflect a broken world with a neat, tidy book. The constant tangents and influences from all genres that are included in this book are a reflection of the arbitrariness of everyday life. There aren't any neat and tidy resolutions in the real world, so there shouldn't be any in books either.

monstrous, deeply disorienting, disheartening, provoking. wasn’t entirely sure what i read until i read the amulet quote re: 2666 which affirmed my gut feelings on this. rating this out of 5 stars feels weird.

what bolaño did is impressive and will take me quite some time to piece and marinate and decide how i ultimately feel about it. its successful in conveying all these emotions, but it is a real slog at times. chapter 4 is a beast to get through—would recommend skimming/skipping the crimes and reading the narratives in between them.

Read the “plot” section on WP and had no idea how that connected to what I’ve been reading
