Too much of the behavior in this aligned with r*pe culture, and it made it hard to get into the book and to suspend belief.

This was an excellent choice to pull me out of a book slump. Dark paranormal romance with enemies to lovers & fated mates tropes. Off the bat, we get the Lore, a catalog of the paranormal creatures of this universe, ranging from vampires to Lykae to Valkyrie and others.   I was immediately enthralled by the characters’ journeys, the lore, and the politics between the groups in contradiction to the couplings we begin to see. My only complaint is the book does seem to wrap up pretty neatly after I had expected an overarching plot through the series, but I’m guessing each book will feature different couples. I’ll certainly be picking up the next installment.

Sexual assault/violence:

The hero hunts for the heroine because she’s his mate, finds her and chases her, then forces her to take him back to her hotel room. He sort of threatens to rape her multiple times throughout the book, and forces his touch on her when she says she doesn’t want it and coerces her into touching him. There is no actual rape, however.

Torture / Confinement:

The hero was imprisoned by enemies and forced to endure prolonged torture by fire. There isn’t a lot of description in the book.

Violence:

The hero severs his own leg in order to escape imprisonment. Also, there are multiple scenes with vampire dismemberment and beheadings.

3/5 spice 5/5 characters. 
Honestly loved this book. It has good explicit scenes. no consent issues but some rougher but consentual scenes. 
Character growth is great growth but not change the characters. 
Trigger warning This has virginity and mate bond stuff
