After we’re made to feel for him because he’s stopped himself from raping her a few times, he drinks a lot so that when she drinks from him, her inhibitions will be loosened so she’ll sleep with him. In other words, he was planning to roofie and rape her.

Besides that, this felt messy and uneven and I just don’t want to give any more time to it. I know people are obsessed with this series, but I’ve got better stuff to read. Byeeeee

Biggest issue with this was that there is an intense lack of consent from start to finish. Somehow the overall plot points and world elements were interesting enough that I wanted to keep reading and I will likely continue with the series.

Normalises rape, abusive relationship, glorifies the fragility of the female protagonist.

I really wanted to love this book! I can set aside the obvious issues with almost non-consent in the book but I honestly HATED the main female character. She had no depth, no backbone, was wishy-washy and I ultimately couldn't finish. I usually don't have any issues identifying or rooting for main characters but I could not buy in here.
