Super helpful, super easy to read, very practical. The common rule lays out 4 daily and 4 weekly habits to implement in daily living to give healthy rhythms in the midst of life’s busyness. If you’re not convinced when you read what the habits are (like I was with some), you will be more so after reading the chapters. Earley also does a great job at giving clear advice and guidance in what implementing the habits can look like instead of just saying you should figure out how to do this.

Reading this as a book club with some friends and it has been great for that. Fun to see how other people view and implement the habits and leads to meaningful convos especially with the questions included for discussion in the back of the book!!

A really good book from the author of Habits of the Household, which I loved even more. Although I did not agree with all of his thoughts (especially those on fasting) and I will probably not embrace his common rule (at least in the way he presents it in this book), I liked this and will recommend it to believers, especially those in the American church.

I read Habits of the Household before this, and they are similar in ideas of forming habits to aid spiritual formation and not letting habits form you. This one was written first and focuses more on the individual person, whereas HOTH focuses more on the family.
Both are INCREDIBLY practical and beneficial to the Christian who wants to work toward a deeply formed spiritual life and wants to resist being formed by habits of the world. I recommend HOTH to everyone and will do the same with this! I listened to it, and will be ordering a hard copy ASAP. So grateful for this author and what he has contributed through his books.

I bought this book for my husband for Christmas and he quickly encouraged me to read it too. I’m a One on the Enneagram and Type A to my core, so I like order and structure. I loved the practicality of this book and that in every aspect of adjusting daily habits it is meant to point us back to Christ. I can’t wait to sit down and outline what the Common Rule will look like in our family. Four and a half stars.
