I think about this book 50% of the times I get into a pool

DID NOT FINISH: 3%

DNF'ed at the first writer's story. I should've DNFed sooner given
one female character's description is only how big her breasts are and a character remarks that Anne Frank didn't have it so bad…

3.5 stars - I had a lot of fun reading this book. Palahniuk's work has become a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. Not too much substance, but the violence and gore is entertaining.
Haunted essentially follows a group of people who go on a three month writer's retreat. During this retreat, they're supposed to spend months perfecting their own short stories. The book is set up to be a chapter of plot, a poem about one of the writers, and then that writer's story. It's a pretty interesting idea, but it falls flat when you realize that each story is written in Palahniuk's easily recognizable voice.
This book is a lot better if you know that it was originally meant to be a collection of short stories. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this book came to be when Palahniuk wanted to publish a book of short stories, but his publisher said that short story collections don't sell as well as novels. So, in an attempt to get his stories published, Palahniuk constructed a narrative around the stories he had already written. This is a pretty cool idea, and I think knowing this beforehand changed my expectations of the book.
Like I said, I had a lot of fun reading this, and if you're a Palahniuk fan I'd recommend checking it out. My favorite short stories are probably Speaking Bitterness and Something's Got to Give. I also thought Mrs. Clark's storyline was interesting.

Interesting but super gross.

This book was incredibly dark and disturbing but written well.

very very good but kinda hard to read so not for beginner readers/ people who don’t read that much/ and plus it’s disturbing so if u don’t like that kinda stuff then stay farrrr away.

I was about halfway through this terrifying book before I realized the cover glows in the dark. Rolled over in the middle of the night and nearly sh*t the bed.

Too many disparate threads!

I finished it just to finish it; nothing really kept me wanting to know what was going to come next.
