In this sequel to The School of Essential Ingredients, I was once again wowed by Erica Bauermeister’s skill in making the five senses come alive with her delightful descriptions of food. Not only that, but the way she glimpses into ordinary people’s lives and, though they are purely fictional, they come alive too. Makes you remember that the lives of strangers you pass on the sidewalk have complex, messy, and extraordinary lives too; more than you’d think at first glance. A fantastic sequel… my only wish being that she’d keep the most private areas of her characters’ lives a little more private.
