Predictable. Flat characters that function more as stereotypes than anything. You knew where this was going from the get go.

Orphanage by the Lake was just okay for me. I’ll admit, based on the cover, I was expecting something darker, maybe a psychological thriller or something genuinely scary. Instead, I felt hoodwinked.
The character development left a lot to be desired. The main character's reason for becoming a PI was supposed to be a pivotal, driving force, but she often came across as just bumbling through life, hoping things work out. It didn’t quite match the setup.
Also, the description promised an orphanage “filled with mysteries” (plural), but... did I miss them? Aside from the central plot point, I didn’t feel like there were any additional layered mysteries to uncover.
All in all, it had potential, but it just didn’t quite land for me.
