3.5 stars rounded up to 4 as per my 5th grade math class.
Spoilers ahead.

This is my second CM Sutter series. After finishing the Mitch Cannon series, I had decided to try skipping the crim's POV as that had been my major complaint.

When you show the crim's POV, there isn't any suspense as you know whodunit already. I wanted to see the detectives (in this case FBI special agents) search for evidence, look for clues, and make deductions based on what they find. Unfortunately, it didn't make too much of a difference in this book as they connected the dots quite early (about midway) and the rest of the book was just finding the crim. A few chapters also combined the crim's POV and Jade Monroe, so I already knew what was happening.

Summary: Jade Monroe is a new agent and she is sent to Houston in the wake of a few heinous murders where the victims are killed in a gruesome way. Two of the murders are connected quickly due to the presence of cinder blocks used in the murder. The Special Agents then comb through their lives to find if or how they intersect and give a clue as to why or who murdered them.

Apart from the above, the writing is a bit simplistic. You can consider these books FBI lite and they are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I will now read book 2 in the series to see if I will continue.

This book was a really fast paced read with plenty of action amd weel drawn characters. However there were more holes in the investigation than in a crocheted doily - are the FBI really so stupid and slow moving when push comes to shove. Did the ending really need to be what it was or could the investigation have moved a bit faster. Finally perhaps the author could invest in a thesaurus and find different options for the word nice which was totally overused.

The first in the next Jade Monroe series. She’s transitioned to the FBI chasing serial killers and the first one was something. Had a Criminal Minds vibe. Sutter does a nice job. Give her a try.

Meh. This was a free book from Kindle for March. The story was ok, but the dialogue was often awkward and the main character did several stupid things that just didn't seem believable. It seemed that she got by on the fact that her dad had been a well-respected cop.
