10/20/21 Reread: Still five stars!! I love this book. It was one of my first romance novels and I was curious how it would hold up. Good news: it is still a favorite!!

6/16/17: 5 stars

FINALLY MANAGED TO MOVE THIS FROM DNF TO FINISHED & I ACTUALLY ENDED UP ENJOYING IT!

I guess 18 year old me did not appreciate the Wattpad type tattooed bad boy, but 22 year old me has decided she likes them messy and damaged lmao. This was such an angsty ride, I loved Shaw she was such a good support system for the entire Archer family, she's been there for them all (even if it was driven slightly due to her unrequited love for Rule), I felt she was underappreciated until Rule got his head out of his ass.

Yea she could be seen as doormat-ty for putting up with so much but Rule is our misunderstood boy filled with pain who doesn't know how to deal with his feelings. But our man-boy grew up through the course of the book and I enjoyed his journey of learning to live away from his brother's memory and being grateful for what he has.

I enjoyed this book. It's not perfect...there are some errors...but I really loved the story. I really loved how the characters were truly in love with each other. This wasn't a typical romance novel... it was good.

It took me forever to finish this book. It was exhausting to read. I was bored half of the book or annoyed. I just couldn't get into this book. Something about it just did not sit well with me. I finally downloaded a freaking audiobook to finish this book for me and even then it took a couple extra month. I didn't like it. The plot had potential but when it came down to it, it was wasted. They were so whiny to me. I wanted to stab my eye out. I wanted to stop reading. I couldn't. I have this annoying problem. I can't stop a book halfway no matter how bad or lame it is. I finished it through though. The only good thing that came out of it. The characters were sort of okay. I could get into it but I wasted all my energy listening to this book. I'm all burned out. They were all so blind. This was not for me at all. I don't understand how so many people liked it. Like what? Are you sure we're reading the same book? The author seemed like they were trying too hard, it didn't feel sincere. It was a bit over the place with the whole drama. And don't get me started on Rule. It was overall ridiculous, a waste of my time, and etc. I WOULD LOVE TO TAKE BACK ALL THE TIME I TOOK TO FINISH THIS. NOT FOR ME.

There were things I liked about this book so I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it but I have to say I think it was just an average romance novel. I have to say I don’t think I’m personally into piercings, mohawks and tattoos so I didn’t get the hype about Rule. But that is my preference and probably reflects in my rating of this book. If you’re into those things, I would say definitely give this series a go!

Although from the descriptions in the book I couldn't dig Rule as much as other book hunks, I loved this book. It was hot and full of drama. Shaw is an incredible character. So strong and beautiful. And she handles everything with grace. Not many people from that type of background would be as calm and grounded as she is. Five stars!
