(-)
- Sehr schleppende Geschwindigkeit
- Der Fokus auf Rem ist uninteressant

I'm surprised at how dark things have become, particularly with how upbeat the story started out. It's getting some real teeth and I'm diggin' it.
This volume has the cruelest scenes so far, so be prepared.
I'm still thinking that the anime was a good ass adaptation from the light novels, but Nagatsuki writes his characters with more depth than we can see in the animation.
The conflict between Subaru and Emilia has wounded both of their hearts and the bond they began to share, just seems to fade almost as it never happened. Subaru feels guilty but at the same time, what he wants is recognition from the girl he loves. He wants her to realize that he's on her side, but we can all agree that he didn't do it the best way, and now he's dealing with the consequences of his acts.
He's staying with Crusch, Felix and Willhelm. The last one is trying to teach him the arts of a true fighter, a knight without his cape. In the mean time, Felix is attending Subaru's gate and under a contract with Crusch, they're all trying to get Subaru on his feet again. Even Crusch has "the talk" with him and that's when he realizes that maybe she is the favorite to become the Queen of Luginica. And he also sees that Emilia has to deal with all kinds of prejudices of people who are terrified of the Witch that looks exactly like her.
But anyway, Rem senses that Ram something is going on back at the mansion and the link they share lets her know that they might need their help. So they try to go back home despite the fact that they've been warned about the white whale and the fog that comes with it.
As we know, this is where the shit begins to happen.
On the first part, Rem leaves Subaru in order to protect him and when he finds out he's pissed. So he finds a way to get to the mansion and just before he arrives, he feels something is absolutely wrong.
The village that's near the mansion is completely gone. The people that lived there and did nothing wrong, are brutally killed. Hell, even the kids were trying to escape but couldn't. So... when he gets there, he sees the corpse of Rem in the yard. She fought with all she got but it wasn't enough. So he starts looking for the others and cannot find anyone but Ram. Then, a deep voice says something that he doesn't understand and his body gets killed by a frozen death.
That's when he comes back from the death one more time, again in front of this guy's store.
But he looses himself. Rem was with him so she doesn't get what the hell is happening to him. Subaru just... he goes dark. He shuts himself off. And believe me when I tell you that's just so heart breaking. To see him so affected by the death of the people he once knew. He just... becomes this kind of zombie.
But then again Rem feels something's wrong and she tooks Subaru with her in order to protect him. She sends their goodbyes to the Crusch team and hits the road. And man... We get the introduction of a true villain -Petelgeuse. He's the archbishop of the Witch Cult and my god, he's fucking crazy. I just don't know how to describe him because he's. Fucking. Crazy.
He tortures Rem and let Subaru watch. And that's just fucked up. I mean, how much more suffering to they have to get through? But anyway, he leaves them and goes off to kill the villagers (again). We don't know his purpose in doing this but maybe he wanted to kill Emilia or something like that.
Rem sacrifices herself to help Subaru get out of there and she dies right in his arms, just like a broken doll. And it's all his fault, for not doing anything when he got the chance. So he takes her corpse to the mansion but before they get there it just crumbles. And yes, the beast he sees is Puck in his real form. He says that they all should join their daughter.
And again, Subaru dies.
Only this time, he takes action. And has a resolution. He will fucking kill Petelgeuse with his own hands.
Now, in my opinion this was truly a heart break. Subaru doesn't know that Rem loves him, because she doesn't say anything about it, at least not when he's conscious. And he shuts himself off again because of the pain that he feels.
I don't know about the haters but I think k they're not seeing the whole picture. Subaru has never intended to be with somebody else other than Emilia. He's done everything to see her smile even though he has made mistakes, yes. But his intention is good.
To be honest, I don't like the way Rem acts on her own behalf. Like she's OK with him loving Emilia but at the same time she wants recognition, she wants him. Although he would never look at her the way she hopes and that's a fact. She's just like a dog, and I'm saying this in the kindest way.
I just don't like when female characters are this way. It's just wrong for me. Though I'll praise her courage to stand for others.
