A summary of a beloved author's works and how they came to be, written by another beloved author. Stuffed with inside jokes and glimpses behind the scenes, this book was a nerd's dream.

As much about Douglas Adams as about the many incarnations of the Guide- and that's not a complaint!

I tripped upon this book while looking for something completely different and I am so happy that I took the time to read/listen! It may not be a long book, but it is so wonderful to have all the little insites and find all the hidden connections between some of my favorite things (Hitchikers/Douglas Adams/Dr Who)! I now recommend this book, yes I just finished it, but also have already recommended it to 3-4 friends! It's like a chance to go back in time and see what Douglas was thinking and why there are so many different versions of Hitchhiker's.

Warning, this book will make you want to read a LOT more books. Off to read Good Omens and then to read some of the hidden gems of Douglas Adams work that I didn't know existed.

Thank you Neil Gaiman for bringing such a wonderful view of a favorite author that was taken from us far too soon.

Good if you're a Douglas Adams/Hitchhiker's fan, if not I can't imagine you getting a lot out of it. Very interesting history of the h2g2 story in all its formats, plus Dirk Gently and other projects, and an interesting look at DA as a person. Clearly written by a fellow admirer.

A sweet and witty biography, assembled with clear affection for Douglas Adams. It’s eye-opening how much of his signature creation, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, was a matter of continually reworking prior material, and how unlikely any of it was to be carried off, considering Adams's deadline-averse writing style and the inflexibility of the production schedule.
