Stephen King, but make it grouchy detective story.

I can’t decide how I felt about this book. I didn’t hate it, but I think I could gave quit reading it at any point and not thought twice about it. It did have some shocking moments and things picked up better near the end but it just wasn’t very exciting. Did really care much about the characters. I am trying to read all the books Holly is in before I read her book, and I do really like her as a character so I stuck with it. We’ll see how the next one pans out.

I loved this series, and really cared for Bill Hodges and his friends Holly and Jerome. My favorite book in the series was the first one, Mr. Mercedes. Although the second book in the series, Finders Keepers, was a bit different than the first and third books I enjoyed all of them.

I've read 32 Stephen King books (after going back and counting them) and if I had to rank them, this one would be at the bottom of the list. A couple interesting twists, but other than that, it felt like we were simply following along as the characters (sometimes acting oddly out of character or developing unique, plot-necessary abilities) moved from one plot point to another.

Classic King... no magical realism in this one.  Horrifying situations.. real people.  I didn't finish this book when it came out... gave King a break after reading everything straight from the Bachman books forward..
It's nice to see that it doesn't change.

if you came here looking for a SK book because you're familiar with his work, you probably know what to expect. if you aren't - it's an excellent crime thriller, grabs you and doesn't let go til the end. but it's a veeery dark ride, full of gore and hatred and shock value (only thing stopping me from giving it a 5), so proceed with caution.

Story was good and fast paced. Did not love the audiobook narrator.
