This book was fine. It was interesting enough for me to read through to the end, but it wasn't 100% my favorite.

There is an unreliable narrator because she had a TBI and memory loss, so it's the kind of mystery where you're not totally sure what the truth is in the end.

One other thing I disliked were the main character's intrusive thoughts. They were extremely annoying during the audiobook. This might not have been an issie in text form, but I'm not sure.

Only lost half a star because I didn't like
the choking sex scene
. Otherwise this was a such a fun listen! The story was great and the audiobook narrators were fantastic.

Dark thriller with a dash of comedy. The complexities of intimate relationships with friends, family and lovers were well written and at times icky and messy- just like real life. Yeah I knew it was a thriller but was not expecting the
domestic violence and violence overall
- not complaining; I thought the author did a good job and I have no doubt many people can (unfortunately) relate to the
gaslighting of Matt's abuse and the Emmett craziness - him not getting that "no" 100% means respect my "no" and back off
I would have rated it higher but I had big issues with the character of
Savvy and the flippant/deranged way she talks about outright killing men that go too far. A hard slap fine but gosh she stabbed that dude to the point of overkill!! And then thought it was ok to kill Matt - don't get me wrong he was a grad A piece of shit but still to KILL him?
I really liked the honesty of (and many men will no doubt disagree - but in my experience this is right on accurate)
men believing other men
. However, I was baffled by Lucy's parents.
Their openly cheating relationship was weird but worst was the rationale to withhold information and also trust in Matt over Lucy - who abused her for years was disgusting. I'm glad granny Bev addressed that!!!!
Speaking of which, Granny Bev was an awesome character!! I was curious how the author was going to explain
Savvy's skin found under Lucy's nails and Lucy bruising her but the attack scene and struggle was well written and totally bought it.
The ending was ok but lacked the oomph I was hoping for. Not a perfect book, but still an enjoyable page turner :)

✨ Book Review✨

Listen for the Lie

Author: Amy Tintera

Rating: 4.5/5 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

Listen for the lie is a one-sitting page-turner. Everyone has secrets and I honestly couldn’t pinpoint who did it.

Lucy Chase is forced to return to her hometown 5 years after being accused of murdering her best friend. New evidence comes to light when TrueCrime Podcaster Ben Owens reopens the case. With no memory of that night, Lucy must come to terms with the fact that she may have murdered her best friend or retrace her memory to solve her best friend’s murder.

The characters were absolutely perfect. The small-town vibe with big secrets. The main character Lucy Chase is sarcastic, witty, and funny. I loved that she embraced who she was. I am inspired to be that carefree. Her grandmother Beverly is hilarious and like Lucy lives her life freely dismissing judgment from others.

I loved the formatting of the podcast interviews in the book. Overall I really enjoyed this book. I did wish that the ending was a little more detailed or explained further. This is more than a thriller if you enjoy drama, betrayal, and secrets, and a page-turner I’d highly recommend this book.
