All of the main characters were the kinds of people that fear mongers painted the entire queer community as - drug addicts, dealers, runaways, homeless, murderers, and rapists. Even so, the beautiful prose in this work make the characters real and full of life despite their flaws, perhaps not loveable but a secret other thing.
The references to Jeffrey Dahmer were especially chilling, and a specific sequence made me want to cry as the treatment of one of his victims is recreated.

I heard so much good stuff about this book but for some reason I couldn’t finish it. I’m not adverse to shock horror, LGBTQ themes also aren’t an issue for me as I’ve read plenty of books with characters all sexuality and genders but this just was constant body horror and sex scene after sex with no pay off. I think perhaps because I’ve read so much horror and “shock” doesn’t affect me anymore this book gave me nothing to grip onto. The main characters didn’t feel interesting.
I got to page 80 so a good 40% in but I kept grimacing and my interest lay elsewhere. First book I’ve DNF. Gutted.
