Thanks to St. Martin's Griffin for the ARC!

Lucy Checks In is a women’s fiction novel focused on Lucy, an almost-50 hotel manager whose reputation is in shambles after the hotel owner took all the money and ran. While she wasn’t involved, it’s prevented her from getting a job… until she gets an offer to rehabilitate a hotel in France. There, we get a lovely hotel renovation story with found family and a side of romance. It did feel a little shocking and rushed toward the end of the book compared to the slower and more lackadaisical first half. But, my favorite part of this book was Lucy’s relationship with her nieces and they ended up in a great place at the end so it all worked out.

Lucy was once the hotel manager of a fabulous NYC hotel. But when the owner/her boyfriend disappeared taking a large amount of money with him, she finds herself jobless and her life falls apart. Fast forward a few years, and Lucy finally has a new job opportunity in Paris, turning around a hotel there and making it a tourist attraction. But when she arrives she finds she has her work caught out for her.

The characters in this book were amazing. The residents of the hotel brought so much personality to this story and they were all loveable in their own ways. However, Lucy stole the show. Her determination and persistence were inspiring. She didn’t give up, even when the task ahead of her seemed impossible, and despite all of the curveballs life threw her way, she kept going. It would have been easy for her to wallow in her feelings, but I never felt like she did. This one was an enjoyable read!

Thank you to SMP romance for the advance copy.

3.5 Stars. Lucy is an older character at 49. She moves to France to manage a hotel and finds a group of personalities that live at the hotel. Together, they work to open a hotel worth a visit. The romance between Lucy and Bing was slow burn and the pacing of the book wasn’t great, as a long time was spent on the hotel renovations and a shorter time was spent on Lucy’s future and life in France. I liked how the book ended, but I thought it could have been better written overall.

Lucy Checks In by Dee Ernst

This book was just a lovely little holiday. Lucy has had a couple tough years after her boyfriend runs away, ruining not only her relationship but also her career. She jumps at the chance to start over by managing the redesign of an old family run hotel in France.

This one was pretty drama free, which I actually really appreciated. No silly miscommunication storyline, just mature adults dealing with life! How refreshing! I read most of this in one day, it was just so lovely and fun, I hope you all love it as much as I did.

Also, moving to France to redesign a hotel has now become a dream of mine. I’ve been to Paris and I absolutely loved it, would go back in a second.

Thank you to @stmartinspress and @netgalley for my copy! This book came out yesterday.

What’s the last book you read in 1 or 2 days?

I was fortunate to receive a free copy of this book thanks to NetGalley.
First, the not so good...I guess I just didn't expect Lucy to be 50 years old (based on the cover and synopsis) - while this wasn't bad per se, it just wasn't a book I would have necessarily picked. Also, the back story of Lucy's past. It was super important to the story, but just wasn't all that well explained. Finally, the renovation of the hotel was done fairly early in the book, so, again, just not what I expected based on the synopsis.
Next, the pretty good. I mean, the setting of a historical hotel in France was just an idyllic setting. The portrayal of middle aged adults as real people, not stereotypes as grandparents who are beyond the age of living their life was refreshing. The characters - I liked all the different people who lived at the hotel and wished I had known more about them.
