Lucy Checks In is a sweet and lovely book about second chances in life, work, and love. Lucy gets the opportunity to take a job as a hotel General Manager at Hotel Paradis, a charming building nestled in the French countryside outside of Paris. She has no idea she's about to embark on a major overhaul to both the hotel and to herself. With the support of a grand cast of fun and quirky characters, Lucy Checks In warmed my heart and made me long for a French getaway. Even though this is not my normal genre, it was enjoyable and fun! It did drag a bit in the middle but more than made up for it at the end.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

In Lucy Checks In, forty-something hôtelier Lucy is starting over in a charming French city after a career-ending scandal in America.
The message is endearing, and I always appreciate the representation of a woman protagonist who isn’t in her 20s. The story gave me serious Eat, Pray, Love and "Under the Tuscan Sun" vibes.
Truly not the fault of the story, but this one wasn’t for me. The storytelling fell flat and the writing felt a bit too slow and clunky for me. I empathized with Lucy, but I just didn’t like her enough to root for her or care where she ended up.
Huge thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was about a woman trying to crawl out from under being wrongfully accused of embezzlement. She accepts a job offer from the only people that will take a chance on her, in France. She arrives to find a very old hotel in need of many repairs, and a very eclectic group of “permanent” hotel residents. It’s a very cute story about rebuilding one’s life, and found family. It makes you want to go and visit, and maybe stay for the $30 phone plan? It’s a sweet story, and a quick read.
