I found this to be a cute book. It is a slow burn romance book for sure, which I am not a huge fan of. I did enjoy reading a book about a middle aged women, I thought it was a good change of pace. The story was well written and interesting, I just didn’t love it. I wasn’t a big fan of the characters or how slow the relationship developed. I did enjoy the setting of the book and the hotel renovation plot! I know others loved this book, so I recommend checking their reviews out too!
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I feel like this book is a little mature for most of my students but I can see a few picking this up and enjoying it. I personally thought it was okay but a little slow for me personally. Had the pacing been a bit quicker, primarily at the beginning it would be more engaging.

I would enjoy this book better in physical form; it didn't work for me on audio.

Almost 50 year old Lucy Giannetti is starting over in France managing/fixing up a hotel. But it isn't quite like she expected. Even though this was pretty predictable, this book was a quick and easy read.

Lucy is a highly sought after hotel manager and at the peak of her career, when the owner of the hotel (and the man she loves) disappears with almost 3 million dollars stolen from employees pension accounts among other places. What is even worse is that nobody believes she wasn’t involved, and she spends all of her savings on lawyers to defend her innocence.
When a small hotel in France offers her a management job, she leaves everything she knows and finds a job that is completely out of her comfort zone. The hotel hasn’t had paying guests for years, but has a determined group of characters who live in the hotel and are willing to invest their time, money, and effort into bringing the hotel back to it’s former glory.
If you are looking for a light hearted read about an eccentric cast of characters, then you will certainly enjoy this book. There are so many good things about it! One of my favorite things about Lucy Checks In is that Lucy is knocking on the door of fifty, which I don’t get to see much in contemporary romances. Another is that the descriptions of France are awe inspiring and immersive, making me want to hop a plane tomorrow. Each character have their own interesting personalities and reasons for coming to the hotel, and each are incredibly endearing while still being imperfect people.
This book was a bright spot in my week, and a refreshing view of a middle aged heroine. I wish there were more books like this out there!
Thank you to Dee Ernst and to St Martin’s Press for gifting me an ARC of this book.

{Livre lu en anglais}

Lucy Checks in by Dee Ernst
I’d like to extend a special thanks to @stmartinspress and @dee.ernst.7 for the chance to read this #eARC! Lucy Checks In will be out August 16 and is available for preorder.
Lucia (Lucy) Giannetti is in need of an overhaul. Career, love, life, the works. She’s just had her hotel executive boyfriend break her heart and make a fool of her in one fail swop when he makes off with her any many other’s money and leaving her to pick up the pieces and be investigated by the FBI. With her career in tatters, she eagerly accepts a job in Rennes, France getting a defunct hotel back up and running. When she arrives she learns it’s going to take a lot more than some new decor to get this hotel back off the ground and most of the residents don’t have faith she can pull it off. Will she be able to restore the Hotel Paradis to its former glory or will this project be more than she can take?
This was a solid summer read. It really helped my need for vicarious wanderlust. I was mildly disappointed that the groundwork was laid for the ghost to play a part and it was ultimately just left a very minor piece (I love a good spook!). The story was solid and I enjoyed the character development in Lucy and how she fulfilled that before she let herself fall for Bing. Romance, growth, comedy, this was solid and had it all. I recommend for those looking for a good, easy summer read!
