The world building in this book is phenominal! I am not usually a huge fan of fantasy but this book has my heart. Erik and Livia are fire together. You can tell from the very beginning of the book that they are fated to be together. I loved how Livia has a quiet strength. She's not a powerful in-your-face female main character but that doesn't make her weak. The banter and angst is on point and the book ends on a cliffhanger. LJ Andrews has renewed my interest in the romantasy genre!

I really wanted to like this, but it read like Pirates of the Caribbean fanfiction with all of the characters as fae. I thought the world was interesting, but it needed to be developed more.

Easily one of the best pirate romantasies I’ve read! I went into this a little nervous that it would be too dark for me based on some of the chatter I’ve heard about it, but it really wasn’t!

Livia is instantly likeable, kind, devoted to her family, she’s the perfect daughter of the king. But as talk of marriage starts to circulate, she feels her time to experience passion and adventure running out. She finds both when captured by Erik Bloodsinger, and the tension between these rival heirs raised to hate each other is sooo good!

Morally grey and a villain to many, Erik was raised to be a ruthless leader of a people who expect nothing less. When it comes time to enact his revenge and he retrieves Livia, his ability to embrace his darkest side falters. He’s soft for her in a way he isn’t for anyone else, and isn’t prepared for. One of my favourite more unexpected things about this book, was Erik’s response to Livia’s anxiety. There are a few moments where Livia starts to have what seems to be an anxiety attack, and Erik jumps in to help calm her. Swoon🥰

With fascinating magic, sweeping romance, and mystery surrounding the history of both families, I was enthralled with this one the entire time! I can’t wait to start The Ever Queen!

🎧Audiobook Specific🎧: For my audiobook friends, the audio was also great, easy to follow and both narrators did an incredible job. I especially loved Will Thorne as Erik! However, the new release hardcover does include exclusive bonus content.

LJ Andrews completely swept me away with The Ever King. From the very first page, I was pulled into the Ever world—full of high seas, fae magic, and political intrigue. The author’s world-building was phenomenal, painting vivid scenes that felt cinematic and immersive.

The dynamic between Erik and Livia was a standout. Their enemies-to-partners arc was emotionally rich and believable, and their journey to heal the lands plagued by a mysterious sickness kept me turning pages late into the night. Andrews navigated their tension and growth with finesse, and I genuinely didn’t want to leave their side.

And that ending? Wow. What a cliffhanger. I audibly gasped and now I’m counting the days until the next installment.
