This was a really fun read. In the beginning I had to do my share to create suspension of disbelief, but once that little hurdle is jumped it's a great ride.
There's some smexy in it, too, but not over much. Mostly it's the repartee and the characters that make this a great read.

This was a super fun book and definitely worth the price. I love the Twelfth Night trope in almost all it's settings, but in this era it was even more fun.
There were funny moments and real moments and that's all you can really ask from a book.
Would definitely recommend.

Muito divertidos os diálogos e uma história um pouco diferente do usual romance da Regência.
The beginning of this story was a solid five stars, even though I'm not a big fan of Regency romances. I love stories where a woman has to disguise herself as a man, especially if the author goes to such lengths to make the reasons and methods believable. I really enjoyed her journey toward being independent, and the love interest was quite delightful...when he was our heroine's friend.
The trouble came after the big reveal, at which point I decided I really disliked the love interest. I was also disappointed by our heroine, who slipped back into the role of a Regency woman pretty easily, not keeping much of the independence she had won while pretending to be a man. Not worth reading up way too late for....

I do love me a good crossdressing story, and Mr. North is exquisite. Didn't care much one way or the other about the hero, but I will admit a tinge of disappointment when crossdressing stories are so, I dunno, resolutely hetero.
I mean, isn't part of the thrill all about the hero and the heroine verging on the scandalous (or, here, even outright doin' it on one occasion) by demonstrating their attraction to each other while both are being outwardly perceived as male? It kinda feels wrong when that's the titillation being played with while there's a giant flashing NO HOMO sign inserted above them by the narrative. Sure, the hero is attracted to the heroine and can't conceal his hearteyes when they're in public and she's still in breeches, but let's be real clear - he's not attracted to dudes, or her as a dude. Sigh.
Still, this is four stars for me because of how Mr. North was a goddamn delight.

Utterly and delightfully ridiculous
I was at first sceptical that this would be a good read but a friend assured me that in would enjoy it. She was quite right. The wit, dialogue, and charming characters carry the story and make believable and enjoyable the outrageous story. While some elements may bother a modem sensibility, I urge people to remember the attitudes, laws, and culture of the historical period. All around an excellent read. I shall be looking forward to future outings by this author.

Feminist-friendly girl-in-pants novel. With an extremely likable heroine who is part Sir Percy Blakeney and part Viola/Cesario.
I completely forgot what this was about about two minutes after finishing it. Readable enough, though I had trouble accepting the solution that the Boarder women resort to in the first place - it really requires quite a bit of suspension of disbelief, which it doesn't completely earn. But an interesting twist to the usual Regency romance done in a fairly frothy way.
