Very disappointing and simplistic. Did not carry on with Anne McCaffrey's voice at all. I rather wonder if he's even read his mother's work....?

The first 300 pages (to me) seemed like the author hadn't found his 'voice' in terms of which character to follow. There seemed to be too much dis-jointed points of view. But once that had cleared up, the book took off for me. I enjoyed it and am interested in the follow-up.

I enjoyed the book so much that I actually squealled in frustration when I realized I was out of pages.

Very disappointing.  Unfortunately the poor plotting, lack of character development and multiple plot holes are matched by uninspiring characters and pedestrian writing.

Content Warning: there are also 2 very young girls (13 & 16) who, and the end of the book are having sexual relationships with much older men. It's stated explicitly that as the younger one has had her 13th birthday there's no reason to interfere

TODD MCCAFFREY IS RUINING PERN!

please stop him. dragonheart was not a very good book.

okay so he is telling the story of the dragon riders that went back in time during the dragon plague. fine...poor storytelling. i mean his books are getting worse instead of better. there were so many thing i did not like.

the dialogue was a major issue. the ages of fiona and terin was another one, a lil gross and kinda unbelievable. the needless detail about how they were going to get the weyr up and running. i mean yeah it is nice to know but really so many pages of dialogue were spent on it i got bored. oh and how about the not keeping of the secrets from the future i mean they were blabbing to everyone stuff they should not.

i am sorry it was just so ick. it was supposed to be more of a character story not a lot of action going on, the characters were great ideas but not very realistic or fully formed. i was sooo very disappointed.

i think i should start a petition and send it to todd and anne mccaffrey. i think there are writers out there that would do a much better job at continuing the story of the dragonriders of pern than todd.

Todd maintains the Perm traditions I have loved through the years. I enjoyed the characters and story, and Emily's reading style works well with the whole package.

Ok. Too much time spent wanking about despair and not making you feel it. Too little movement of the story forward. Great swaths where it could have been edited to a chapter and gotten the same point across, rather then 5 chapters of OH NO WE HAVE NO DRAGONS.

Slow. But I still read it.
