An interesting classic, I adore the satirical play on the world. It just gets a bit boring by the end, but still worth reading.
Gulliver's Travels tells the meandering tale of Lemuel Gulliver's multiple journeys across the world to the several fantastical places.
It's always hard for me to rate a classic that I didn't enjoy. On the one hand, I feel like you have to appreciate that this book was a precursor to modern literature, and influenced both other authors and the genre itself. On the other hand, it's hard to excuse the blatant sexism and racism of the time it was written.
The language of Gulliver's Travels is quite archaic. Comparing it to say Shakespeare, I had a much harder time following the speech and actions described by Swift in his prose. The paragraphs are quite long, and I had to reread many passages before I fully comprehended the intention of the text.
The narrative itself is pretty scattered. Some aspects of his political discourse still seem very relevant in modern culture, but other pieces seemed hastily thrown together. Overall, I think the best section is Gulliver's time with the Houyhnhnms and his discoveries about humankind.
At the heart, it is a satire of European governments during the early 18th century. If you can get past Swift's dull prose, maybe you will enjoy it more than I did.

Review:
I did a buddy read with @Reading_and_Wrighting and we did not have as good of a time as we did with Gone with the Wind. Most of our back and forth was about how we haven't read the book in a few days, or can this be over with, or how there were a few good things about the book, but it gets so old so fast.
This entire book is like being in a conversation of jokes that you don't get the references to. I just absolutely hated it. I'm also fine saying I just didn't understand the book, or the purpose of the book. At the end of the day I read it, and it can go be retired to a bookshelf now. I am surprised, that 4 books into the 'classics' I'm doing off the Great American Reads list, this was the first one that I really didn't like at all. I've been pretty lucky, and hoping my next few reads are great.
