READING IT WAS A SHEER TORTURE.There were moments when I was genuinely interested in the plot but through the most of the book I was really bored. There were too many descriptions of everything. At some point I thought I'm gonna throw the book across the room if author will describe every single detail of yet another new society. It was hard to keep on reading. The ideas author had were interesting but I sincerely didn't like how they were put together and executed.

A grower - the satire is clearly very layered so there's a lot to be peeled back here, and reading more on the context would help immensely as well. Putting a pin in this one, will return to it sometime.

3 stars ⭐⭐⭐

Interesting read- love the satire!

DID NOT FINISH: 65%

This guy keeps getting lost at sea but keeps…. Going out to sea? Man needs a new job. Other things I didn’t love:
Use of very olde worlde words and spellings, with lots of rogue k’s (musick, physicks, publick etc.) which is just annoying to me.
There were overly long and technical descriptions of completely inconsequential things.
It is SO repetitive. Basically a copy and paste but with different special things about each island (tiny people, giant people, miscellaneous type of people).
I feel like even the author gets bored of his descriptions and often says “I won’t trouble the reader with it” after having already troubled me with it for 3 pages
Footnotes made things worse honestly, and were incredibly excessive (Wordsworth classics edition).
I would usually finish 300 words in two sitting but it took me almost a month to get this far so had to give it up as a bad job.

I'm only giving it two stars because houyhnhnm is the coolest word ever.
