Brilliant end to the Ember Quartet, bittersweet but beautiful, everything happened the way it was meant to.
I thought this was a nice ending to a pretty good series. Because I read this in fits and starts, I think it made it harder for me to get into the story. That being said, there were still some moments that surprised me.
I’d recommend this series to anyone who wants a decent and easy fantasy read with some character complexities. It’s not perfect—there are things I could nitpick and criticize—but it’s entertaining.

For those worried about the YA label, lean in. The character work in this series is outstanding. Their journeys are emotional and brutal, and they don’t all get a fairy tale ending. Even the FMC (which is so often hated by many readers in these types of series) has moments worth a fist pump.
These are fast-paced, easy reads, with constant POV swapping cliffhangers. Minus 0.5 stars because in every book Tahir crams battles that have been worked up to in only 1-2 pages. Her (short) page count is focused on the journey rather than the destination, which works in the end but I wouldn’t mind a bit more. Overall, one of my new favorite series.
