Holy shit. This series…. THIS SERIES. Without a doubt one of the best series I’ve read. I think there were so many poignant moments and so many areas where this story wrecked me. I wish I could make everyone read this series at least once.

May death claim me first
This series was SO GOOD!! Full of twists and turns. I'm so sad I finished it :( This series is like a breath of fresh air because it's not predictable, not like these happy-go-lucky stories where everybody lives even though there's an insane war going on (in which luckily only the bad guys die phew) or where somebody dies and they just forget the person almost right away- indeed, it's more a beautiful and hopeful story on how to live with grief and how to always believe in and fight for the good in the world (wow this sounds lame lol). It's also not this classic standard straight-nonsense cliché trope where the women are much weaker than the men and need them in order to be saved.
I really enjoyed getting to know Islamic mythology and I loved the characters! The series was full of strong women, e.g. Laia, Helene, Mamie Rila, the Lioness, Afya Ara-Nur, Rehmat, Izzi, etc.
*chef's kiss* to Sabaa Tahir for the amazing world-building, storytelling and character creation. Such beautiful writing. Thank you for the ride!
Loyal to the end

I am completely shattered. Beautifully written. Empathy and heartbreaking compassion to match its violence and grief. Sabaa has found a way to bring tears to my eyes over the story’s greatest villains while destroying my heart with the loss of my most loved. It’s not often that an author finds such deep forgiveness for so many. My sweet Helene. My dearest Harper. There are no words.
