The problems I have with this book, I think actually stem from problems with the set up from the start of the first book. I never felt that Laia's love for Keenan was particularly strong, so the ending between her and the Nightbringer doesn't feel particularly satisfying. Nor do I love how Laia's naivety feels convenient rather than genuine at times. And that's frustrating. The Commandant's abilities being so far above the average person is also never explained.
There are just a lot of small things that make it not a 5 star series unfortunately. Though it is still very good. But nothing should feel convenient and the way the world works with the jinn and Mauth and Rehmat should feel natural and right, not odd. So, yeah.
Overall it's a really good conclusion. But it was also trying to do things that were following threads from other books but I felt the threads were too small.

DID NOT FINISH

this series was beautiful I love how the characters came so far and underwent a lot of challenges and growth without making the book too rushed. I love the action moments and the quiet moments. this was a 4 star series with beautiful lessons taught and unique perspectives weaved into it.

This series started off strongly, and has gotten better with each book. It is not often that I am actually surprised by a plot twist, but that has repeatedly happened with this series.
Most of the fantasy books I have read recently were more character development and relationship centric than plot centric. This series was the opposite to me- it was plot centric with the character development often happening in the background. Despite this, it was amazing to see how the characters changed throughout the series, with Helene being far and away my favorite.
