What? This was such a weird deviation from 1-5 and pretty obnoxious. What the hell happened to Hori? I nearly DNF’ed and now not sure i want to continue the series.

What I love about "Horimiya" is that it's not an immediate romance between Hori and Miyamura. They begin as friends and then into love.

This volume splits the numerous chapters into short stories rather than part of the larger story. This is completely fine. We get to see side stories of the other cast members and get to know them better, such as the Student Council president–who doesn't want to join his male classmates in the pool. We see developing feelings between the other kids and a new step forward in Hori and Miyamura's relationship.

It's fun and completely necessary. I feared Sakura and the others would be forgotten or pushed aside for the main couple. This volume clears it up.

The art remains stellar. I feel it's tighter compared to the first volume, and more expressions appear.

Volume six continues a fabulous story. I can't wait for the seventh volume.

Trundling along. This series continues to pleasantly surprise me with the sweet and understated main romance. Even when they fight, it doesn't feel like unnecessary drama and it reinforces their compatibility ultimately. Also, I really like the subtlety with which more, well, heated scenes are portrayed. It's poetic and tender instead of all explicit.

Any time Miyamura reflects on his past loneliness and how Hori has brightened his life, I wail and clutch my chest.

There's something really lovely about Tooru’s reaction to Yuki’s burnt cupcake. I'm watching those two...

Any good story first sets up a conflict, a tension to hold the readers.
It can be as simple as having shared secrets from the world.
Or it can be that two strangers who feel lonely find solace in each other.

Then the story's tension is built up.
The secrets starts to leak.
The strangers start to grow closer.
New characters are introduced.
There is even internal conflicts inside the mind of the character.
They start to feel things they didn't know they wanted.

And then there is the final step. The payoff of the climax.
The characters are finally getting a respite from their tensions as the conflicts are resolved.
The larger the build up, the greater the payoff.
If the resolution is done too easily, the payoff isn't great.

What I loved about this volume was that the resolution, the payoff was perfectly executed.
It felt like the moment when a magician performs his best trick and everyone is silent and just stunned by the MAGIC.

That's all I can think to describe this volume, MAGIC.
Loved it.

This volume was weird. It was all over the place. Don’t know why Sawada is on the cover when she’s not even in it. Then we have the teacher who admits to liking high school girls—-YIKES. And Hori being physically abusive to Miyamura. She needs to get her jealousy in check because it’s not cute.

The Toru love triangle is going to end in some heartbreak that you can see a mile away. I just hope there’s someone for Sakura. I always hate how the “quiet” girl is used as a plot device.

The thing that saved this volume was Miyamura reassuring Souta that he isn’t going to “steal” Hori from him. That shit was so cute and adorable. This might also be the first high school romance manga I’ve read where the characters do more than just hold hands or awkwardly kiss, which is wild to me.
