Loved the touches of magical realism here and only wish I’d read it in the original Spanish. Particularly poignant as it is set during the 1918 flu, which upends normal life. The overall story was compelling with a particularly gripping character or two.

It's a masterpiece that once unfolded slowly takes you through 3 generation and their butterfly effect

It took me longer than usual to become invested in this story, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. The characters were beautifully written - Simonopio the Lion was easy to fall in love with. I think the descriptive writing style, albeit repetitive at times, is the best way to show the world how Simonopio sees it, so colorful and fragrant - things we often miss. Through heartwarming and heartwrenching moments, it also shares themes of Mexican history, wealth disparity, and faith.

Finished the year on a high note. What a lovely book.

This book was beautifully written. The story was incredibly interesting and I was moved by the complexity of the relationships between the many characters. I definitely recommend.

This book was so slow. Really enjoyed the last 100 pages.

Really slow at first, but once Simonopio finds the bees treasure it gets really good. Beautifully written and heart wrenching
