This book was so beautiful in the English translation that I cannot imagine how amazing it would be as originally written. I'm not sure why it took me so long to read because I was very moved by this book. I think I felt every emotion possible and I definitely fell in love with the family.
I received this ebook free on World Book Day and I'm so happy to have finally read it!

On another day I would have loved this book. This time I got impatient with the slow rhythm and and singsong style of writing. The characters are likeable and the story interesting.
I give the first 100 pages, and the last 125 pages five stars. the middle 200 page ... Oh my. This book could have been shorter. From Amazon: "From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him as if he were their own. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can—visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous. Followed by his protective swarm of bees and living to deliver his adoptive family from threat"
A nice beautifully written book that could have used a lot of tightening up.
Wow. I want to give this book and everyone in it a hug. Typically “beautifully written, multi-generational stories” are not my jam -sorry Pachinko. But this book WAS beautifully written and I felt like I was there with them. The changing perspectives were easy to keep up with and the story loops worked so well. Ah, I love it.
Wow. It shifts. It is heartbreaking. It is a little odd. It is worth your time.
A beautiful story of family, destiny, and magic across a historical timeline of the Mexican Revolution. This tale, told from six different POVs, was intricate and beguiling with breathtaking magical realism. Segovia wove such a masterful story with mesmerizing rippling effects from the start. Though this was a slow journey, it was one I was glad to be on. Stunning imagery and detail with such care for each of the characters and the growth was stellar.
I highly recommend this one if you're interested in a lasting read.

What a beautiful and poetic story. I listened to the audiobook for this one and it might be one of my favorites that I have ever listened to.
