Una historia escrita de manera casi nostálgica a través de anécdotas, y refranes. Como si lo estuviese contando por tu abuelo/a. Te encariñas con los personajes en especial a Simonopio 🥺🫶🏽
I read the Spanish version after noticing English version said it was translated. I’m happy I did. At first I was confused by the changes of perspectives but as you read, you get used to the style. (I personally had never read a story written like that before). I will admit that in parts it was a bit slow but all the details provided are important and make sense at the end. I would definitely reread despite the slow sections.
The emotional parts hit me hard, as Segovia wrote about deep topics to feel them as my own. I cried.
El personaje de Simonopio fue bello y puro. Una bella narración.

Graphic: Death, Grief, Murder, Pandemic/Epidemic
Moderate: Sexual assault
Minor: Sexism

A bit too long to get to the climax of the book.
It took me a really long time to get into this book, but I liked the ending. Love the connection of the bees and orange trees, as well as the setting in Mexico and some elements of fantasy such as other Mexican stories.

The Murmur of Bees had the potential to be a great book instead of being a good book with the potential to have been great.
I thought that while some parts were absolutely beautiful, some other parts were unnecessarily repetitive that made the reading flow drop. Most parts were an undeniable 5 stars, but a few parts were between 2-3 stars due to repetitive sentences. The writing seemed a little rushed and unedited on the parts that had exactly the same sentences, nearly copy and paste from other pages.
Overall, it is a good book worth reading--Enjoyable and heartwarming as well as painful. I cried in a couple scenes. However, the end left me unsatisfied. Many times I was going to give this book 5 stars, but because of the repetitions that made parts of the reading dull and the book longer than it should have been, I ended up giving it 3 stars (3.5 stars). I must say though that the beautiful parts of the book will leave you in awe of Segovia's gorgeous writing style and skilled storytelling, so I definitely recommend it, and I would gladly read another book by her. Maybe, all that this book had needed was better editing to remove the unnecessary repetitions.

DNF at page 290. I had many high hopes for this book because it sounded like a beautiful story. I tried really hard to like it but I had to give up after I realized I wasn’t absorbing anything. The opening chapters were written beautifully and had my attention, but lost me soon after. The changing timelines and characters were very difficult to keep up with; could be due to the translation as other reviews said. So sad this didn’t work out for me.

This story has touched deep inside my heart with Simonopio’s and every single character life’s perspective; there no words to describe the perfection of this novel. What I loved the most is how the writer narrates to increase love and compassion to every character and that evolve your emotions to make you feel you’re part of the story and their lives.
I consider this is my favorite book in this year because I found so many personal things in the novel that was life changing. 🥹
