This is a beautifully written historical fiction with a touch of magic. This is a family saga, filled with adventure, murder, wonderful friendships, and emotionally complex characters. I loved this and would highly recommend this translated novel.

Beautiful. A little slow for my preferences.

It took me a really long time to read this book. Was it me or the book? I'm not sure. But once I got about 65% finished, I couldn't put it down. Beautiful writing throughout.

Simonopio and his bees save the day.

As the title suggests, this is a soft, murmuring narrative told at a leisurely pace, but the story is made even more powerful because of it. I listened to this as an audiobook and I highly recommend. The performance brought the moods and characters to life in a way I may not have appreciated in just the written form. What a beautiful dip into another world - agrarian, Mexican - that nonetheless has so many parallels to our own - we are also enduring a pandemic, and war, and the themes of familial love are universal and enduring. The writing is beautiful. The plot is character-driven. The scenery is vivid with its smells and sounds. I loved it and am sorry it’s over.
