If you asked me to describe this book using only one word, that word would be sad. Every character in the book is sad or angry.

Usually I connect with the main characters, but I really didn't in this book. There just wasn't enough there there. I felt sad for them, but I didn't feel like I knew them all that well.

I love Kate DiCamillo but I thought this one was a lot like Because of Winn-Dixie (one of my favorite books of all time!) but it didn't live up to that standard like her others too. The ending was sad wasn't expecting that. I thought it might be a good book for boys in elementary school but not sure.

I read this with one of my students without knowing what happened and the ending was kind of crazy.
