I've had this book in my TBR for a while but never got around to reading it and now I'm wishing I'd read it much earlier as it was a great read. Levi and Blue complement each other brilliantly, with Levi's goodness and kindness balanced by Blue's initial spiky snark. The ghosts are satisfyingly creepy, the romance builds at a nice pace - no insta-love here - and Tom, the bookshop owner, is a great character as well. If you like ghost stories with a side of romance and a murder mystery then I recommend this book. 👌 I've bought the 2nd and 3rd books in the series straightaway, I enjoyed this so much.

mm - low fantasy - moderate steam - class gap - grumpy/sunshine - roommates to lovers - (former) sex worker - 4 stars. Fun and easy ghost story centered around a serial killer in England.

What a joy this book was! I'd entirely forgotten what it was about by the time I got to it. The cover implies historical but blue hair says fantasy. It's neither! And yet I'm not disappointed at all. I really enjoyed the haunted house vibe. I suspected the twist at the end to an extent, but that, in no way, diminished my enjoyment of the story. I adore books that weave history and myth together and this one did it in such a compelling way. Of course, it helps that Blue and Levi were adorable and perfect. Also.. Tom? Love him. Can we have a book of him just being a grumpy snark because I'm here for it.

My Opinion: At times the plot seemed a bit dragged, and the cliche events for character development, such as "let's argue because we misunderstood one another" and "a wild ex appears, uses charm" didn't help either. But then, the story is filled with thriller-like detective, scary ghosts, characters running for their lives, barricading themselves in rooms, and otherwise having scary kind of fun.

In general, I think it's worth it to forgive the current hiccups due to this being the first book. I can give it a 4 out of 5, and will read the next.
