There were parts when I couldn't put this down, and parts when it dragged. All in all, I think it is a really strong first novel and I'm interested in reading her next book.
I hadn´t heard anyone speaking about All the Birds in the Sky when I saw it, I just read the summary on a whim and it sounded like the absolute perfect story for me so I had to pick it up. And fortunately I was right, this was the perfect book for me. It has interesting nature themes and believable dystopian elements, it combines magic and science in a fascinating way, the prose is beautiful and the characters lovable. Plus it has just the right amount of romance. Charlie Jane Anders tackles some very important topics that are especially close to my heart, nature catastrophes, climate change and our relation to nature in general. This book really made me think while reading and I can´t seem to stop thinking about it even after I´ve finished it. All the Birds in the Sky is exactly the kind of literature I would want to create.
This is one of those books that I kept thinking about long after the last page. I loved the way the author combined sci-fi and fantasy, weaving together the themes of technology and nature, through the unlikely friendship of a computer scientist and a witch. As the end of their world draws near, they both want to save it, but their ideologies clash on what “world” they are trying to save.
This book chronicles the relationship of Patricia and Laurence from their childhood to young adults. I thought it was an interesting take on how science and magic can often be similar. The pacing was a bit off for me, and there were a couple of plot lines I felt were unnecessary and confusing. Overall, the book was fine, just not the best fiction out there in my opinion.
A beautiful mash-up of sci-fi & fantasy. Really engaging and cool.
I adore this book! I feel for the characters on a deep emotional level, because they were so well crafted and fleshed out. Just amazing!
An ambitious book that featured magic and science fiction intersecting on an earth that is on the verge of passing into a dystopian apocalypse, there is really only one way to describe the book - random
There are so many thoughts, so many ideas floating around anchored centrally by the love that the 2 central characters share, she a witch and he a futurist. Their worlds or rather their ideas collide when she realizes she has to protect the earth and he has to prepare mankind for moving away from earth. The story starts when both meet up as kids, discover that they are freaks to others, part and go their own ways until they meet when they are grown up and still discover that they are different and a world that likes labeling puts them in a label that they fear
There is a real beauty at work when the book focuses on the loneliness and the need to be something that the characters go through but where the book falters is in trying to pack in too much and tonal inconsistency.

I liked the concept. The world of technology is decently developed as is the main character. The magic world not so much, the main character felt to me stuck in time despite all her power. The link between some of the storylines just drops through the book after some build up.
It's a very short book (reads like a novella) and if you like a mixed Sci-fi/Fantasy story just to pass the time, it may work for you.
So, in short - for my taste - good premise, lost chances with characters and plots.
