A bit like a slightly grown up sci-fi magic novel, as if written for the teenage versions of the main characters. Most enjoyable towards the end as the apocalypse type event drew near.
Lots of end of world and sports themes for this year's rooster...?

love the combo of fantasy and technology but the writing was just good

A very interesting story of two kids trying to find themselves and their place in the world.
This book is a mix of science and magic and human awareness.
Some of the dialogue and interactions are described very simplistically, which at times in this book detract from the gravity of them. It's hard to explain.
Overall, I did enjoy the book.
adventurous funny reflective fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Very enjoyable read. The characters were likeable. The young girl has magical abilities and the young boy is a technical genius. The novel is essentially a love story between two people who are separated from each other during most of the novel. The theme is magic vs technology. This takes place in a near future America and most of the action takes place in San Francisco.

I don't want to spoil it. I recommend it for Young Adults who are OK with sex and the use of the word "fuck".
dark emotional funny hopeful slow-paced

I am so sad I will not be at Book club to discuss this one!

I'm so sorry to say that, in the end, this book was such a disappointment....The first part was really enjoyable and I read it at a fast pace, but the last two hundred pages almost killed me, because they were so boring and it seemed to me that the author didn't have the solution to end the book and she was writing casually. And after years of Shannara I can't stand speaking trees anymore I have to admit, so I take all the responsability.

From its first pages, I knew that this is a good book. But it took me until the end to decide if it is a really good book. My rating is four stars; I've decided that it is indeed a really good book. Charlie Jane Anders' book is filled with engaging, solid writing and an almost dizzying array of ideas scientific, magical, cultural, ecological. The book is a vast mish-mash of concepts and genres, but not entirely; there is a plot, there is progression, there is resolution. And ultimately the read is gratifying and satisfying. All The Birds In The Sky is like a particularly chaotic punk-rock song that is fast and exhilarating and thrilling, but seems like it is going to fall apart at any moment; like the band is going to lose the rhythm and the beat, the drummer is going to kick over his kit, and the bassist is going chuck his axe into the giant mirror behind the bar. But this doesn't happen; it doesn't fall apart. The band races ahead breakneck and they reach the end of the song with a clatter and a rattle, but they get there, breathless, and for an observer there is a thrill and an exhilaration in having observed the event. This is what the experience of reading All The Birds In The Sky was like for me.

This kind of reminded me of the library at mount char as far as the reading experience went. It had that same kind of weird what's happening vibe but I really enjoyed it, and I enjoyed the story and the characters and how it was kinda science vs. Magic and nature versus science and how all that played out, and how it was resolved. I just enjoyed reading this-it took several shifts in tone I think, and the beginning was HARD because I tend to dislike stories about authority figures making children's lives hard or just ignoring their reality in a way because it gets so frustrating but overall, I think this is going on that same library at my char weird kinda apocalyptic fantasy with magic and stuff.
