This book is a fast and, though I feel guilty saying it, fun read. My biggest pet peeve is the frequent “Deus ex Machina’s” that diminish the effectiveness of some of the twists. That being said, Halpin kept me turning those pages! Can’t wait for the next installment.

This book worked for me on some levels, but not others. I did not hate it, but I think it could have been better. Still, I try to be more positive with debut books because things can improve. It has a lot of bloody parts, making me unsure if I was going to be able to handle all it was throwing at me. But I tried my best? Not the worst book, but I think it could be improved with some edits.

Also, this was supposed to be a fantasy. That did not really seem to show up til the end, and not as much as I thought. It was just a book about a cult with some fantasy thrown in. Def not what I was expecting????

The story is slow. Maybe if you like slower paces, this will suit you. I just thought it could have paced better. The POV goes between a cult official and a member of the Battese family. Perhaps if the stories had flowed better, it would have been less of a drag? I mean, I did like some of the parts. But it seemed like time was moving at a glacial pace compared to what I thought would be happening. It was just a lot of gore and gross, with some evil. Maybe this works for some, but I wanted more story.

This book was slow and maybe too gross for me. If you like those things, it should work for you. I am curious to see what this author will do next.

This is the first installment of Bill Halpin's The Unrisen saga, The Cult of Eden. I'm not big on religion and will often lose interest in a book if a religious undertone becomes too overbearing. But give me a book about a creepy religious cult and I'm there!!!.
This book took me on one hell of a journey! Just when I thought I'd worked out which direction it was going, it slammed on the brakes and took a hard right in a direction I wasn't expecting. The Manson family have nothing on this Cult!!! As far as debut novels go, The Cult of Eden is right up there and I cannot wait for the 2nd book in the series.
Bravo Bill, bravo!!

Thank you to @netgalley for the ebook

Horror. Pure horror in its right. Not ghost stories or hauntings. Pure horror from torture and murder and cults. Sometimes it’s purely Good vs Evil. It’s been with us since the beginning. And it’ll be with us until the end.
.
.
A very powerful story between Good and Evil. Christianity and Satanism. Doing what’s necessary for your family and loved ones. How far would you go to protect what is yours? Will the line be blurred or crossed? Can you forgive yourself after all is said and done?

This book was not at all what I expected. I am here for it. It brings me feelings of The Exorcist. A tingle in your spine. A chill on your scalp. The feeling as though someone is watching you. I picked this book up and finished it in one sitting because I could not put it down. I’m not going to lie there were some parts in this book I was not prepared for or probably never would be prepared for. It is not for the faint of heart.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow. This book is an exceptional novel. Will and his wife live in NYC and the rest of his family is coming to live with them reuniting them for the first time in a couple of years, but Degas of the Eden cult has other plans for them. This was a great ride! It was very well-written. It was fast-paced with a lot of action and enough description to keep things vivid, but it wasn't overly wordy . I really liked how each person had their own chapters so you got each of their stories as everything unfolded. There was one part of this book that knocked the air right out of my chest so be prepared. This is a little like Frank Peretti on steroids with a little more profanity and a lot more violence. I would like to know more about the cult, but since this is the first in a series, I hope that will be coming in future books. I would definitely recommend this to horror fans who like the battle between good and evil and occult stories.
