Yeah, no. This is a great premise that suffers from an overabundance of rich white girl bullshit, and I say that as a well-off white girl. And she really fucking hates AA, which also nope.
Maybe this is the recovery book for you. It was not the recovery book for me.

I furrowed my brow at the “divine feminine” discussion. Shook my head at the “healed myself via lemon water and meditation” conversation. LOST MY MIND at the 6 page chapter on social justice at the very end
As someone with 14 years of sobriety thanks to a higher power and AA, the way she dismisses alcoholism as a disease and belittles the program of AA really turned me off. It was honestly painful to listen to because (in my experience for me) if I was attempting to get sober and read the first few chapters of the book, I would not take any responsibility for my drinking and immediately go pick up a bottle.
AA is not perfect (hello patriarchy and religion) and it does not work for everyone but my sponsor helped me see a new perspective and get sober. There are a ton of ways to get sober and one is not better than another.

Graphic: Addiction, Alcoholism, Alcohol
I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn’t get beyond her constant contradictions and total lack of awareness. She speaks of empowerment and acceptance, but only for her way of doing things. Yoga, meditation, and essential oils? The road to recovery. Alcoholics Anonymous? A sinister plot by the patriarchy to keep women down.
The whole thing reads like a 17 year old’s high school English research paper. I don’t think this girl has ever had a thought of her own, and it shows in the inconsistency of her ideas and opinions. I’ve never been so excited to be done with a book.

I read this book last year, and it really struck a chord with me. I haven't been a heavy drinker since my early 20s, but after reading this book, I've almost completely stopped drinking. The author is a bit...zealous. And, tbh, she annoys me a bit. But regardless, it was effective. This book really flipped a switch in my head that said, "Wow, drinking is weird. And, it doesn't make me feel good." Would recommend.
