I adored this book. Its raw, real, and insightful. It feels less like a memoir or a biography and more like a well researched social commentary with real world examples. Emily Ratajkowski is primarily famous from her appearance in the Blurred Lines music video but, she started her career long before and continues it long after. In addition to writing about her industry experiences, good and bad, Emily describes the publics reactions and people close to her. Her description of multiple experiences of men in the industry taking advantage of their positions and her desperation/naivety is both profound and unfortunately relatable. As a women who is nothing like Emily Ratajkowski, she wrote of things most women experience one way or another and accurately targeted how we feel and how hopeless it is. Although it was unfortunately relatable, it was well written, engaging, and genuinely interesting. I now adore her and will fist fight someone in a Walmart parking lot for her.

I think this is the feminist book all women should be reading right now. I respect this woman so much. Speaking her truth and carving an outlet for other women to speak their truths too. This book is heavy. I was blé to empathize with this woman and I saw parallels with the objectification of women just normally but emphasized in modeling. This book was a real story from someone who is more than just a body.

Powerful, moving, and a testament to what it means to be a woman in our modern age. Emrata is an artist, through and through.

I really loved this read and Emily's meditation on what it's like to have the privilege to make it big in an industry that sexualizes and objectifies you, and realize down the road you never truly achieved any power. You just got perks like money and status but that the real power continues to be in the hands of rich men who use that power to continue to do harm.
I also really appreciated the honestly with which she explores the internal conflict of wanting the attention of scary, powerful men, and how we're taught to find validation in that even though it's violent towards us. There's a promise of power and empowerment there if you can be a big girl and tough it out. Emily's not the "perfect victim" and it's important to share stories like that because it's true to life. You shouldn't have to be this "perfect victim" to have the harms done to you acknowledged and addressed.
