Narrator: 5+ stars. Fantastic job. Prentice Onayemi is incredible!
Story: 5 Stars

This book. This series.
So. Damn. Good!

Through every twist, turn, and breath-stealing moment, Evan Winter takes the reader on an outstanding journey and I was not ready for the ending.
Each page had something new to offer and unveiled more of the stunning world created.
Exhausted, broken, and fueled by unfathomable rage, we continue to follow Tau on his path to justice alongside his most trusted men.
A beautiful world soaked in blood and violence. Will they ever know peace?

Breathtaking. Immersive. Absolutely phenomenal. Tau continues to be an extremely compelling (if not single-minded) main character and I love him. Fuelled almost entirely by vengeance, it was nice to see him grow and become more of a protector (tho he is still first and foremost Vengeance). I enjoyed the way his relationship with Tsiori evolved, and I was surprised as he was at the relationship reveal between Hadith and Uduak. I also grew to really love Nyah and her wit (“This, Chibo, is what men call leadership” Nyah said walking up with her daughter. “You can tell they are doing it when you see several of them not doing any work.”) and was devastated, but incredibly moved, by her sacrifice and death.
While this book was still fast paced (and I loved it!) it was definitely slowed down compared to the first, with lots of space for the characters to all develop in very satisfying ways.

This is like non stop action from the get go, but it never feels too fast. The pacing is excellent, which can be difficult to accomplish when it's this fast paced.

I loved the continuation of the plot, as well as the character development and relationships. While it was fairly obvious where the story was going with Tau and Tsoria, I did appreciate and was invested in their relationship far more than I was with Zuri.
Tho I will say, it always feels a little bit off to me when the MC has a Serious love interest in one book, they die, and then in the very next book the MC has a NEW love interest. It's a bit too "these characters are disposable and are only here for one thing" for my tastes

The ending had me so anxious I wanted to look up spoilers.

Also really glad that
the hedeni and Omehi are going to be teaming up against a common foe bc omg the cognitive dissonance of being with Tau and Tsoria and caring about them and wanting them to succeed, tied with the fact that their people and society fucking suck and are the colonizers and honestly 🖕🖕🖕 them. fucking wild.

I also really enjoyed the character work with Esi.
