Heartsease

Charlotte (Lot) and Ellen (Nelly) are sisters , and when they meet at a silent retreat in the Tasmanian countryside, all of their grief from the loss of their mother is unleashed. Heartsease is a story of family, love, grief and loss.
.
I loved the setting of the Tassie countryside- and the weaving of dark humour, particularly at the silent retreat, I was caught giggling quite a few times.  It’s also a part coming-of-age story, there’s good character development and reflections. If you enjoyed The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding, then you may enjoy Heartsease.

My favourite book of the year!! I truly loved this story that goes back and forth between characters as well as in time. The story of family, sisters, grief and love. Such real characters, given such depth through their own words as well as others.
