This is pure Space Opera.

I'm glad I started it, but I'm not sure that I can recommend it to everyone. It is a very specific person that will enjoys this type of story.

I like Honor Harrington...and have to say...that she's been a real joy to read about. This story was a LOT different from the previous stories (she's found love).

There is a LOT of political maneuvering going within these books. The galaxy/universe is not easy to get "into", but once that you find your footing...you can follow the machinations from their leaders...that eventually flow down to their navy.

The naval battles are what I picked these books up for. I cannot say that I understand all the "behind the scenes" work with weight/tons and the like, but I'm glad that it's there...for it allows the narrative to be firmly within the story, without anything getting wonky.

I was truly surprised by the end of this book...and am interested in what is going to happen, next.

Ok, but I wish Honor got at least one chance to use our new ship on less powerful ships. It gets boring when she keeps getting a new one, only to find that her opponents are always better too.

Love this series. And at the beginning of Chapter 9, I am reminded of how much I love the Graysons and their tendency to name their new ships of the wall after people who have died to protect their planet.

This is perhaps my favorite among the Honor Harrington series. Harrington's career is at just the right rank--a flag captain with great responsibilities but without the great demands of actual flag command--to create a great deal of excitement. The fact Weber devotes the book to covering the "eve" of the conflict Manticore and Haven have planned and dreaded for so long doesn't detract from the on the edge of the seat mentality either. The book is also a nice relief from the larger "brick" that was The Honor of the Queen. It is a good, fast-paced read that provides for an enjoyable few days of military SF.

I’m really enjoying this series. I admit some of the military jargon and details overwhelms me some. And I think for future books I will need a notepaper with the ship name and captain name to keep the information straight in my head, I got a little confused this time. I fully understand why my boyfriend likes these books so much, the military details are great, the tactics and weapons and political environment of a military agency seems right on the dot to me. What I like about it however is the characters, they grow with each book, they are engaging and interesting to read about. I am starting to really get a feel for Honor and Webber has her acting true to her nature, just as I feel she should. I really hate in series when they have the characters act differently than the previous books indicate they should.
